Athletics Ireland have been invited to participate in the ‘Pickering Memorial Throws International’ in Loughborough, England this coming Monday (May 27th). Eight athletes have been selected across the three pathway age categories (U23, U20 and U18).
According to David Sweeney, Athletics Ireland Performance Lead for Field Events, “This is an exciting opportunity for these pathway development athletes to gain experience against selections from England, Scotland, Wales, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland. Many of these athletes are in line for selection for European Age-category championships either this year or next year and this competition will provide great experience competing against a great international selection. Also, Athletics Ireland hugely appreciate the invitation from England Athletics to participate in this competition, which is being held in memory of Shaun Pickering who passed away suddenly in the last year. Shaun was a great friend of Irish athletics and was hugely influential in the global throws community.”
