Irish athletics stars Sarah Healy, Andrew Coscoran and Darragh McElhinney are just some of the athletes who began their athletics careers at Schools Cross-Country competitions.

This Saturday will see close to 1,000 athletes battle it out as they bid to follow in the footsteps of their heroes at the 123.ie All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships which take place at Tymon Park in Tallaght, Dublin, on March 9th.

It promises to be another thrilling day of cross country action, getting underway with the minor girls race from 12 noon on Saturday.

The intermediate races are set for a 1.20pm and 1.40pm starts, where Emily Bolton (Mount Sackville Sec. School Chapelizod) and Leo Murray (Douglas CS) should go well in their respective contests.

The senior races should be compelling affairs with rising cross country stars dotted across both events. The boy’s race will see a strong Leinster representation in the form of

Cormac Dixon (Holy Family Community School R'coole), Billy Coogan (Kilkenny CBS), Louie Woodger (Castleknock Community College), and Noah Harris (ETSS Wicklow).

Sean Lawton (Colaiste Pobail Bantry), Finn Diver (St Malachy's College), and Tom Fleming (Ballyclare High School) are also sure to be in the shake-up.

The senior girl's race should also be a thrilling spectacle with a host of Ireland’s most exciting endurance athletes set to take their place. The line up looks set to include  including Anna Gardiner (Assumption GS), Lucy Foster (Down HS Downpatrick), Nicole Dinan (St Angelas Cork) , Julie Cleary (Loreto St. Stephen's Green), Annabel Morrison (Enniskillen Royal Grammar), and Eimear McCarroll (Loreto Omagh).
