RECORDS AND MEDALS SECURED BY MASTERS IN TULLAMORE
The 123.ie National Masters Track and Field Championships rounded out a superb outdoor athletics season in Tullamore today, with a host of excellent performances across the eight-hour schedule.
Gemma Thompson (Spartans) W35 took the 200m title in 26.60, with hurdle star Avril Dillon W40 (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) hugely impressive in the 100m sprint to claim gold in 12.61.
Adina Gheorhiu W45 (Dundrum South Dublin A.C.) completed the sprint double in the 100m 12.66 and 200m 26.50, while Paulo Silva M35 (Dublin City Harriers A.C.) clocked 11.94 in the men’s 100m.
Denise Toner (Clones AC) W45 starred on the day, picking up gold in the 1500m (4:46.52) and 800m (2:18.14), while Kevin Minnock M35 (Tullamore Harriers) also doubled up in the 800m (2:02.79) and 1500m (4:20.76).
400mO’CONNOR, Sinead O’Connor W40 (Metro/St. Brigids A.C.) posted one of the best runs of the day over 400m, clocking 1:02.80. Christopher George also impressed over the one lap to take the title for Derry Track Club in 53.24.
The men’s 5000m was billed as one of the races of the day, and it didn’t disappoint with Brian Conroy M40 of Clane A.C. running way to gold in brutal conditions in a time of 15:24.67.
2004 Olympian Maria McCambridge (Dundrum South Dublin AC) took the W45 3000m title in 10:13.66, following Fiona Gettings W40 of Longford A.C. home in 10:11.16.
Ger Cremin (An Riocht) M45 collected another national title in the short hurdles to cross in 16.06.
Erika Jouzapuite (Blackrock Louth) W40 was one of the stars of the field events, taking gold in the long jump with 5.11m as well as silver (1.35m) behind Michelle During W35 (City of Derry A.C. Spartans) in the high jump who picked up gold with a clearance of 1.50m.
Olga Nedvede (Dooneen AC) W35 walked away with a bag full of golds, coming first in the javelin 31.05m, WFD 7.59m, and discus 36.24 NR.
John Dwyer M40 (Templemore A.C.) added to his medal collection with gold in the discus 42.02 and hammer 51.23.
