This year’s Remembrance Run 5K will be especially poignant as it marks the 13th anniversary of the passing of legendary Irish sportswriter Con Houlihan who would have turned 100 this year, and whose memory inspired the creation of this unique event.
Founded by Frank Greally in 2012, the Remembrance Run 5K has grown into a cherished national gathering – a morning of reflection, celebration, and connection. Taking place on Sunday, November 9th in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, the event invites people of all ages and abilities to walk or run in memory of loved ones who have passed.
“Con used to say that ‘The Last Time’ are three of the most poignant words in any language,” said Frank Greally. “That sentiment has stayed with me ever since. The Remembrance Run 5K is about honouring those we’ve lost – but also about reminding ourselves to reach out, reconnect, and do the things we can, while we still can.”
Frank’s own recent reflections – including the loss of his brother Tom in 2024 – have deepened his belief in the importance of acting on those quiet inner nudges to visit, call, or simply say what needs to be said.
“Regret is too heavy a load to carry,” Frank said. “This event is a space to remember, to heal, and to celebrate life.”
