Plenty of PB's at BMC Manchester meet - Updated The BMC / Nike Grand Prix meet in Manchester featured forty nine Irish runners for this feast of middle distance running. The BMC meets continue to attract the cream of Irish runners who are rewarded with fast paced races to suit all levels. Gary Murray must be regarded as one of the most competitive runners in Ireland. The national cross country champion was in action in the 5,000m and finished a close second in a time of 13:50.27, with Mark Christie one place back in 13:52.05, smashing his PB. Joe Sweeney was seventh and his time of 14:04.32 was not only a new PB by a mile, but it also qualifies him for the European under 23 championships along with Christie and Andrew Ledwith, who did the qualifying standard in the US. Mark Kirwan was another to post a new PB in the 3,000m steeplechase, but his time of 8:54.77 was just outside the European standard of 8:52.00. David Campbell was a convincing winner of the B 1,500m in a time of 3:42.44. Charlotte Ffrench O’Carroll was in fine form, winning the women’s B race in 4:25.35, a time that qualifies her for the World youth championships. Meanwhile, the grand ‘old’ man of Irish athletics, Mark Carroll continued his track revival with a win in the 1,500m at the Boston High Performance meet in a time of 3:41.22, while Thomas Chamney was in action in Poland, finishing fifth with a season’s best of 1:47.37. Ciara Sheehy was seventh in the 100m in 11.85 with a wind reading of +1.1, and seventh in the 200m in 23.87 (+1.1) and Michelle Carey was fourth in the 400m hurdles with a season's best of 57.44 at the same meet.
