Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) broke her own Irish 200m indoor record with a world leading time of 22.52 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque (Jan 21).

Adeleke’s winning time was more than three-tenths of a second faster than her previous record of 22.85, set in Albuquerque last February. It also moves her to 25th on the World all-time 200m list indoors.

Adeleke also ran 7.20 seconds in the 60m dash, finishing second behind team-mate Julien Alfred, whose winning time of 7.02 set a new NCAA record.

This latest record-breaking performance continues on Adeleke’s form from her sparkling 2022 season which saw the Tallaght sprint star finish 5th in the European 400m final in a record breaking time of 50.53 (Aug 2022).

There was also a superb 60m performance from Sarah Leahy (Killarney Valley AC) who posted a 7.32 in the Czech Republic yesterday to move to joint eighth on the Irish all-time list alongside Ailis McSweeney.
