Sonia to Launch 2005 BUPA Ireland Cork City Sports

Former multiple world champion and Olympic silver medallist, Sonia O'Sullivan, will formally launch the 54th BUPA Ireland Cork City Sports at the historic Council Chambers, City Hall, Cork on June 2nd. The Cobh athlete, following her recent successful foray into the London Marathon will compete over 3000m in Cork against a top international field including current European Cross Country champion, Hayley Yelling. The annual international track and field fixture to be staged at the Mardyke on Saturday 2nd July will feature double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes over 1500m. Another current Olympic and World champion Dwight Phillips competes in the Long Jump while other Olympic medallists in action include Paul Bitok (Kenya) and Ronetta Smith (Jamaica). European Indoor champions David Gillick (400m) and Mark Carroll (3000m) will strive for home victories in these events. Athletes from thirty countries have already declared for the event which is now in its 54th year.
