The IAU European 24-Hour Championships 2022 will take place in Verona, Italy on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th September. Ireland will be represented in both the Women’s and Men’s races with strong teams selected for both. The squad will be captained by the 2021 Ultra Runner of the year and 24hr National Record holder Ed McGroarty of Lifford Strabane AC with a personal best distance of 256.570Km.
Making their International debut will be the 2021 Women’s National Champion and 24hr Record holder Aoife Mundow of Drogheda & District AC. Nichola Duffy of Navan AC who has a personal best of 207.026Km and Niall McGuigan of Atlas Running Club who covered a distance of 222.930K in the 2021 Belfast 24hr race.
The teams are confident of improving on their rankings from the 2018 European Championships held in Timisoara, Romania where the Women’s Team finished in 13th position and the Men’s Team finished in 8th position.
