The 123.ie National Masters Indoor Championships provided a host of compelling events across the track and field schedule at the TUS International Arena in Athlone today (Feb 5th).

Annette Quaid (Leevale AC) impressed once again, taking the gold medal in the 200m (26.27 W45) and 400m (58.10 W45).

Paul Broderick (SLOT) also walked away with a double gold medal haul, claiming the M35 200m in 23.97 as well as the 60m in 7.41.

Gemma Thompson of City of Derry Spartans was fastest of the sprinters, picking up first place thanks to her 8.12 in the W35 60m final.

Avril Dillon (DSD) and Ger Cremin (An Riocht) were on fire over the 60m hurdles, both taking the 2023 national indoor titles thanks to their 8.76 (Dillon) and 9.12 (Cremin) performances.

Fiona Keogh (Kilmore AC) was a popular winner of the W40 1500 race, crossing in 4.36.56.

Rory Chesser’s Ennis teammates were in action in Spain while he was picking up gold in both the 1500m (4.09.01 M35) and 3000m (8.43.51) titles in Athlone.

Best of the 800m runners today were Caitriona Dowling (Rathfarnham WSAF)  in 2.19.23 W35 and Kieran McGrath (Drogheda and District) in 2.02.62.

David Kidd (SLOT) was the star performer in the walks events, crossing the 3000m distance in 14.09.20 to take the gold medal back to Carlow.

There was no shortage of intriguing action in the field events where Erika Jouzapuite (Blackrock Louth) posted a 1.42m in the high jump to take the W40 title. Keith King (Kilmurray) was best in the men’s competition, clearing 1.70m in the M35 category.

Olga Nedvede (Dooneen AC) and John Dwyer (Templemore AC) dominated the throws events, with both athletes claiming both the men’s and women’s shot out and WFT distance titles in the 35+ category.
