Weather conditions were dull and overcast for the KitKat Tailteann Games at Tullamore Harriers stadium today (Photos Added). Thankfully it did not rain. Claire Fitzgerald from Pres Tralee was in great form recording a big treble with the javelin 35.72, shot 12.66, and discus 37.57 – could be the first treble in Tailteann records. Colin Quirke is back in Ireland for the summer from his Los Gatos California High School and is certainly making a mark for himself in the throws. Competing as a guest he threw 19.25 in the shot and later threw 52.77 in the discus and looks like he has a big future in the Green singlet. He has now qualified for both events at the World Youth championships. Jason Harvey from Campbell College was another in good form winning the high jump with a clearance of 1.95m and later made his mark on the track with a good win in the 100m hurdles in 13.66. Noel Collins from Drumragh Int repeated his steeplechase win of the All Ireland schools, but this time he had the hold off the close attentions of Tomás Cotter from St. Mary’s Dundalk who clocked 4:22.85 to the winners 4:21.17. Collins' time improved on Liam Reale's 1999 record of 4:22.3. Shane Quinn from DLS Waterford moved up an age and simply destroyed the field to win the 1,500m in 4:02.33 at his ease. Dan King from St. Eunans moved away from the field with two laps remaining to win the 3,000m in 8:51.98. Curtiss Woods moved up an age to win the 200m in 22.98, while Hanna Lewis won the long jump with 5.65. ResultsClair Fitzgerald800 FinishDan KingSteeple Finish
