World Athletics and TG4 have announced that the station will broadcast the World Athletics Indoor Tour Final live and exclusive from Madrid on Wednesday afternoon.
Following one of the most successful indoor seasons in Irish athletics history, five athletes from Ireland will be participating in Madrid - Andrew Coscoran (1500m) - Star of the Sea A.C (Meath), Leon Reid (60m) - Menapians A.C (Wexford), Nadia Power (800m) - Dublin City Harriers A.C (Dublin), Sarah Lavin (60m Hurdles) - Emerald AC (Limerick) and Louise Shanahan (800m) - Leevale AC (Cork). The live coverage from Madrid will begin on TG4 at 3.55pm and will include all the races up to the last race at 6.10pm.
The women’s 800m promises to be one of the races of the meeting and will feature both Power and Shanahan. Power has twice bettered the Irish Indoor Record this season, as recently as last Wednesday before Síofra Cléirigh Büttner bettered the time in the US on Sunday night.
Coscoran is also in top form and ran the fifth fastest 1500m by an Irish man at the World Indoor Tour event in France two weeks ago.
Alongside this, some of the biggest names in world athletics will square off in Madrid.
Commentary on TG4’s live coverage will be provided by Cuán Ó Flatharta and Rory Chesser. Commenting on the announcement, Rónán Ó Coisdealbha Head of Sport TG4 said, "TG4 are delighted to extend our longstanding commitment to athletics coverage in Ireland. As the host broadcaster of the AIT International Grand Prix, coverage of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Final from Madrid is a natural fit for us. Given the fantastic results from Abbotstown at the weekend and the significant Irish interest in Madrid we hope the coverage provides a much-needed boost for the nation at this challenging time."
