The Daily Mile, promoted by Athletics Ireland, has now been adopted by close to 1,400 primary schools countrywide.
The new school year has seen a surge in the number of new schools signing up for the Daily Mile and making it part of the school day.
“As a result of inspirational performances by Irish athletes at the European Championships and the Paris Olympics, there has been increased interest by principals and teachers in primary schools to adopt the daily 15 minutes walk or run program that is the essence of The Daily Mile,” Frank Greally, Athletics Ireland Ambassador for The Daily Mile said.
“There has been a huge interest by children in relays and that’s down to the success of our relay success in Rome and Paris. It’s a good news story and a positive one too.
A big primary schools gathering for The Daily Mile is due to take place at the Connacht GAA Airdome in Mayo on Wednesday, October 9th. David Matthews will also be showcasing his Try Track & Field program at this very impressive venue.
