The men's 4x400 and women's 4x100m relays alongside the women's 5000m will be the focus of Irish attention today. Men's 4x400m Relay Semi-Final: At 2:39pm the men's 4x400m will go under the starters orders in the second semi-final where they will face such teams as Russia and Great Britain in their attempts to reach Sunday's final. With 3 of the team having already competed in the 400m indivdual event there will be high hopes for the team to reach the final. Women's 4x100m Relay Semi-Final: At 3:45pm it will be the turn of the women's 4x100m to take on the challenge of qualifying for tomorrow's final. The team will feature Derval O'Rourke (silver medallist in the 100mH), Joanne Cuddihy (finalist of the 400m), Anna Boyle (who qualified for the 100m and 200m) and the Cork athlete Ailis McSweeney. The other 2 members of the relay squad who departed for Gothenburg, Ciara Sheehy and Emily Maher, are out of the running after both suffering injuries while competing. Among the Irish team's competitiors will be the British, French and Greek teams. Women's 5000m Final: At 4:15pm Mary Cullen and Marie Davenport will line out for the women's 5000m.
