Tobin takes 10k as Buggy wins 13th national title
Sean Tobin (Clonmel) made his own golden moment to win the national 10,000m title in 29:35.14 on the third day of the Irish Life Health National Senior & U23 Championships in Morton Stadium today (August 29th).
Tobin finished second in a pulsating 1500m last week but had the winning touch moving with five laps to go. Eric Keogh (Donore Harriers) had a really strong finish to close down the yards in 29:36.21 usurping Hugh Armstrong (Ballina) who was third in 29:39.74.

Niamh Fogarty (Raheny Shamrock) won her third senior women’s discus title, along with U23 gold, with a best of 49.46m from Ciara Sheehy (Emerald) with 41.94m and Casey Mulvey (Inny Vale) with 41.17m.
Saragh Buggy (St Abban’s) underlined her dominance in the women’s triple jump winning her fifth straight title with 12.97m from Grace Furlong U23 (Waterford) with 12.27m and Kim O’Hare U23 (Raheny Shamrock) with 11.34m. This added to the gold Buggy won last week in the long jump and was her 13th national senior title.
Kate Veale (West Waterford) was also racking up the titles in the women’s 5,000m race walk taking gold in 24:51.49. It was Veale’s 12 national senior title and she echoed many in her delight at being able to race.

Callum Wilkinson (Togher) was a commanding winner of the men’s 10,000m race walk in 39:52.05 from training partners David Kenny (Farranfore/Maine Valley) in 41:38.45 and Brendan Boyce (Finn Valley) in 42:19.19.89 – a clean sweep of the podium for Robert Heffernan’s men.
Colin Quirke (Crusaders) won the men’s discus with a best throw of 55.50m from Eoin Sheridan (Clonliffe Harriers) with 52.22m and Michael Healy (Youghal) with 44.04m.
The men’s triple jump came down to a clutch jump by Jai Benson (Lagan Valley) with his final attempt to win the senior and U23 titles with a best 14.53m. Michael Alajiki (Dundealgan) who was the long time leader had to settle for silver with 14.40m while Mark Burton (City of Lisburn) 14.29m
