Leading U.S. track and field athletes shall cross the Atlantic following next weekend’s U.S.A. Track & Field Championships and compete on July 2nd at the 54th BUPA Ireland Cork City Sports which is building up to be the biggest athletics promotion seen in Cork for many years. Olympic and World long jump champion Dwight Phillips heads the U.S. challenge while Olympic silver medallist Bernard Williams in the sprints, double world hurdles champion Anjanette Kirkland, world indoor champion and part owner of the world 4 x 400m relay record Tyree Washington will all be major attractions. For good measure throw in two time U.S. cross-county champion Shalane Flanagan over 3000m, former schoolboy sensation Alan Webb in the 800m, Charlie Gruber (1500m), Danielle Carruthers (100mH), and U.S. steeplechase champion, Daniel Lincoln, and Irish sports followers are spoilt for choice. Double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes will be making one of her final European track appearances at the Mardyke venue which has seen all the great middle distance champions of the past three decades compete in Cork.
