The Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena was the venue for the second in the series of “Try Track & Field Support Days” on 12th November.

Seventy-five coaches came together to be upskilled in the technical events, Hurdles, Shot Put and Pole Vault under the guidance of coaches Catherine McManus (DCH-Hurdles), Declan Nyhan (Dunboyne AC-Shot Put), and Seamus Flynn (Lusk AC-Pole Vault). It provided a hugely beneficial opportunity for club coaches to work alongside the ‘Try Track and Field’ expert coaching team.

Over 350 juvenile Athletes then had the opportunity to “Try” the different events. The Pole Vault was very popular with the young athletes and undoubtedly discovered some future vaulting stars.

The highly successful day was completed with an element of competition (electronic timing) where the coaches had the opportunity to hone their new skills in a relaxed environment at the top class Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena facility.

David Matthews, Try Track & Field Manager said:

“Try Track & Field” does exactly what it says…it creates a supportive environment and provides the opportunity for juveniles and coaches to “Try” the different events. This is crucial for the development of the sport and it was so refreshing to see over 100 juvenile athletes trying the Pole Vault for the first time today. Who knows, we may just unearth a budding Mondo Duplantis or Sandi Morris”.

The event is a non competitive opportunity to try out the different elements of track and field with the support from Athletics Ireland. Please feel free to contact Davidmatthews@Athleticsireland.ie for further details.
