Nicola Tuthill has won a silver medal in the U23 Hammer Throw Final at the European Throwing Cup in Portugal this afternoon (March 10th). It marks the second year in a row that Tuthill has claimed the U23 Hammer Throw silver at the event. 2023 saw Tuthill become the first Irish athlete ever to win a medal at the European Throwing Cup, when she took silver in the women’s U23 hammer competition at the same venue in Leiria.
Tuthill posted a superb first round throw of 67.39 which would ultimately prove to be her best of today’s competition. Tuthill backed up her first round throw with a 67.12 on her second attempt, a throw that in itself has only be bettered by Tuthill and Irish record holder Eileen O'Keeffe (73.21 NR).
