UCD crowned champions

UCD have been crowned the Irish Life Health National Road Relays women’s champions which were held in Raheny last Sunday.

Queen’s, who were first across the line, had mistakenly included an athlete on their team who was not a member of QUB AC.

As a result the trio of Alanna Lally, Ellie Hartnett and Ciara Everard are now the gold medallists for UCD after their excellent runs. Letterkenny now take silver with Leevale upgraded to bronze.

Lally, an 800m specialist, led off for the Dubliners on the first mile leg before passing to Hartnett on the 2 mile leg. The Wicklow woman ran strongly to pass over to Rio Olympian Ciara Everard who ran the fastest mile leg of the day. All three athletes are coached by two-time Olympian James Nolan and he said: "I'm delighted for the girls. They've been training hard and it's good reward for their efforts."
