Senior Training Camp Portugal - Donegal county primary school athletics The recent warm weather training period undertaken at Monte Gordo provided a very positive/ focused training environment for a two week period. The Algarve location, in addition to having all the facilities required with an excellent hotel, in close proximity, is easily accessible from Faro (50 minutes by road). Practically all of our top athletes living in either UK or Ireland availed of the invitation and opportunity to think - Team Ireland- prior to the upcoming European Cup in Vaasa June 23/24. The presence of support staff provided an extra dimension as in situ were A.A.I. Doctor Bill Cuddihy and Chief Physiotherapist Nessa Smyth with the support of an additional two physios: exercise physiologist Declan Gamble, sports psychology support from Enda Mc Nulty, video analysis from Denise Martin and the invitation to personal coaches to attend having being offered a bursary by A.A.I. being availed of by quite a few. It all added up to a positive experience. In addition information evenings gave medical, sports psychology, incoming Director of athletes, Max Jones a period for input and availability as was the case of medical screenings being undertaken. Camp Manager Patsy Mc Gonagle expressed his delight at the positivity surrounding this group over the period and expressed his gratitude to all support staff to Stephen Maguire, Aoife Hoey and Pat Ryan from the A.A.I. staff and the impact of N.C.T.C. and NI Institute of sport. Certainly it’s a camp to be taken in annually and the format improved based on athlete feedback..
