DCU will host the Irish University Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday, 13 th/14th April at Santry stadium. The championships will take on a new format this year in an effort to make it more spectator and athlete friendly. Friday sees the action get underway at 4.00pm with the sprint hurdles the first event on the track. It promises to be an exciting evening in the distance events with finals taking place in the 3,000m steeplechase for women, 10,000m for men and 5,000m for women. There will also be a men's 1,000m race for athletes who do not make their respective college teams. There will be an early start on Saturday as the programme of events starts at 10.50am with the finals for the 400m hurdles. The middle-distance events should prove to be the most exciting events on the second day of competition. The two day event will see some of Ireland's top domestic runners on show including Mark Christie (DCU), Danny Darcy (DCU), Orla Drumm (UCC) and the in form Fionnuala Britton (DCU) who recently finished an excellent 14th place at the IAAF World Cross-Country Championships. DCU will look to win their first overall team title and should face good competition from UCD and UL. It promises to be an exciting two days of competition.
