The race starts at Kilmashogue Lane at 7 am and will finish around 120 km later in Shillelagh. The race traverses the Wicklow Way in eight stages passing through well-known beauty spots such as Three Rock, Glencullen, Glencree, Lough Tay, Glendalough, Glenmalure, Iron Bridge and Tinahely before finishing at a quiet pub beside a free-flowing river. This year’s event has attracted a record 36 teams and while Rathfarnham are favourites, Clonliffe and Crusaders have assembled strong teams to challenge them. While a team must have at least two runners, a typical team comprises eight runners of which two must be women and two more must be veterans. Civil Service Harriers set the record of 7:17:21 in 2004 with the 2007 Rathfarnham winning team next fastest in 7 hours 22 minutes. Beth McCluskey (Crusaders) has three fastest leg times and Gerry Healy (Civil Service) has two fastest legs. Ordnance Survey Ireland are sponsoring the race. The records for the race and the individual legs are given below: Race : Civil Service (2004) 7:17:21 Leg 1: Colm Mullen (2007) 56:00; Emma Legrand (2005) 75:30 Leg 2: Gerry Healy (2004) 61:02; Lisa Higgins (2003) 83:50 Leg 3: Dessie Shorten (2003) 27:04; Jean Carr (2007) 31:11 Leg 4: Wieslaw Sosnowski (2004) 38:25; Beth McCluskey (2006) 43:37 Leg 5: Gerry Hickson (2004) 56:03; Karen Bothwell (2005) 66:40 Leg 6: Gerry Healy (2004) 48:57; Nina Phillips (2003) 63:46 Leg 7: John Brooks (2005) 75:07; Beth McCluskey (2006) 101:37 Leg 8: Paul Nolan (2003) 40:40; Beth McCluskey (2006) 47:27
