British Sportshall Finals Donegal Girls 4th in Birmingham Donegal’s Under 15 Girls team finished an excellent 4th at the British Sportshall finals in the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham on Sunday. Only nine points outside a top three finish they put together some outstanding individual performances against the thirteen of the best county/city teams from Scotland, England and Wales. However it was in the relays that they pulled out all the stops. In an enthralling 4 x 2 laps final Lisa Shields, Monica O’Connor, both letterkenny, Kitty O’Kennedy and Aoife O’Connor both St John Bosco were edged into a silver medal position by 0.9secs behind Birmingham. Entering the final events of the day –the relays-the Donegal squad lay in 7th overall position but a 2nd place finish mentioned above and a 6th place finish from Catherine Wilkie, Letterkenny and Louise Harvey, St John Bosco in the 8 Laps parlauf –only0.8secs outside the top three –brought them with 9pts of a top three finish. Donegal scorers –top four accumulated plus the relays Aoife O’Connor 236pts, Lisa Shields, 223pts, Kitty O’Kennedy,185pts, Louise Harvey,172pts, Catherine Wilkie, 154pts and Amie Brogan, 72 pts Team Result 1 Birmingham 1,279pts, 2 Essex, 1,139pts, 3 Hampshire, 1,045pts, Donegal, 1,036pts -13 reams competed Donegal also represented Ulster in the Under 15 Boys competition and finished in a credible 8th team place. The performance of Pauric Carr, Sliabh Liag, Caolan Ward, Letterkenny, Brian Douglas, Milford and Conor Collins, Innishowen in finished second in the final of the 4 x 2 lap relay was outstanding. Conor Collins scored 242pts and was the 10th highest scoring athlete in the age group, Caolan Ward, 217pts, David Hegarty, Killybegs,Mark English, Letterkenny, Brian Douglas, 141ptsa and Robert O’Donnell, Rosses, 104 pts were the support scorers.
