Athletics Ireland, Cycling Ireland, Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA), Rowing Ireland and Triathlon Ireland have collaborated to bring an exciting and innovative event to the female coaches within their respective sports.
This inaugural networking event will take place on Sunday 6th November at Clayton Hotel, Liffey Valley, Dublin.
The networking day has come about from overwhelming feedback from coaches who have gone through the Women in Sport Coaching Pathway Programme, another initiative the five National Governing Bodies work together on. The coaches have spoken about the need for more networking events and the benefit they get from meeting up and learning from one another.
Dr Phil Kearney, Lecturer in Motor Skill Acquisition, Coaching and Performance at University of Limerick will be on hand to deliver an education session and he noted,
“The networking day has come about from overwhelming feedback from coaches who have gone through the Women in Sport Coaching Pathway Programme over the last two years, another initiative the five National Governing Bodies work together on. The coaches have spoken about the need for more networking events and the benefit they get from meeting up and learning from one another.”
As well as getting to hear from Lisa and Phil, there will be ample opportunities for coaches to network throughout the day.
Speaking about the Networking Day, Lilly-Ann O’Hora, Women in Sport Manger for Athletics Ireland said,
“From our research conducted with DCU last year, our coaches expressed the want for more regular coach education and coach network development opportunities. We have extremely ambitious coaches who want to do more in our sport, but often cannot access flexible learning opportunities to advance their coaching. This is something we are very much eager to change through our first inaugural Women in Sport Network Day, which will be another positive step in providing and promoting such support networks. By collaborating with Cycling Ireland, Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA), Rowing Ireland and Triathlon Ireland, we are creating ongoing opportunities for our members to learn, empower, collaborate, whilst having credible pathways for progression and continued support at each stage.”
Lisa Fallon, currently working with FIFA in their High Performance Department, and current Chair of Paralympics Ireland High Performance Committee, has been confirmed as they keynote speaker.
