World Champion Ben Limo For Cork

Current World Champion over 5000m Benjamin Limo from Kenya has been confirmed as the latest major named athlete to run at at the Cork City Sports. Limo will race over 3000m at the Mardyke on June 30 where he is likely to erase the current meeting record of 7:38.20 set by Australian Craig Mottram in July,2005. Later that year Limo won a thrilling world championship final in Helsinki defeating both Sileski Sihane (Ethiopia) and Mottram in a dramatic sprint finish, courtesy of a 52 second last lap! The same year Limo posted times of 7:29.60 for 3000m and 12;55.26 for 5000m. The thirty two year old has also won the short course, 4km, world cross country title in Belfast in 1999 and a world track silver medal the same year.
