The men’s 20k walk saw Irish champion and record holder Robert Heffernan put in the performance of his life to finish a brilliant sixth. Right from the gun he placed himself perfectly and was never too far off the medal positions. This was a battling performance by the Corkman and continued the outstanding efforts he has been making in the past months that saw him set new Irish records over 20k on the roads and 5,000m on the track. The extremely warm weather undoubtedly made life difficult but he did not let it affect him as he raced to his best ever placing in international competition.
