Athletics Ireland are pleased to announce the team for World Junior Championships Athletics Ireland have announced their largest ever team of 22 athletes for the World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland on 8-13 July. National Junior Record Holder Brian Gregan will compete in the 400m and 4x400m relay. US Based Colin Quirke will compete in the Shot Putt with Barry Pender competing in the High Jump. Ireland’s tradition in race walking continues with Paul Fitzpatrick and Laura Reynolds both competing. Niamh Whelan of Ferrybank A.C will be busy competing in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Ferrybank are also well represented with the 400m Hurdlers Kalyn Sheehan and Jessie Barr. Sandra Lawler and Mairead Murphy will compete over the 100m hurdles. There is good representation in the Women’s distance events with Ciara Everard competing in the 800m and Sara Treacy and Ciara Mageean competing in the 1500m. Two relay teams have been announced with the women’s 4x100m relay looking to revise their recently set national junior record. A men’s 4x400m relay team is also included based on impressive performances in recent weeks from Curtis Woods, Jason Harvey & Billy Ryan. Director of Coaching Gary Ryan said “This is fantastic to have so many junior athletes involved at such a high level. We are looking to these athletes establishing good performances on a world stage.”
