Everard excels in opening 800m performance
Ciara Everard produced an impressive performance this morning to secure her place in the 800m semi finals. Everard ran a quick time of 2:05.36 in a race which saw the top three athletes finish in a close sprint! A strong finish from Everard ensured she booked her place in the semi final event tomorrow.
Barr Powers to Victory on Day one of the World University Games
Irish 400m hurdles record holder Thomas Barr (University of Limerick) was the first Irish track and Field athlete in action at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea on Wednesday 8th of July.
Quickest of Qualifiers
Barr was drawn in heat five of six with the first three automatically qualifying for the semi-finals. The University of Limerick student powered to an impressive victory in a time of 49.96 seconds to easily qualify for the semi-finals. The time for Barr was the quickest of all the qualifiers with Juander Santos of the Dominican Republic the next quickest with a time of 50.66. Barr will be back in action tomorrow for the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles at 6.50am (IRL time).
Travers Through to Final
John Travers produced a terrific performance in wet weather to place second in round one of the 1500m with a time of 3:44.28. A close race saw the top seven athletes all finish within a second of top spot. The race set off at a quick pace and finished with many athletes in contention, the impressive result ensures Travers will be competing in the 1500m final this Friday at 12:15pm (Irish Time).
