Young stars set to shine at Irish Life Health Leinster Schools
An exciting day 1 of the Irish Life Health Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships kicks off tomorrow (May 17) in Morton Stadium.
It will predominantly see the minor and junior age groups in action with the majority of the intermediate and senior categories on Saturday (May 21st).
There will be seniors competing in the steeplechase and Amy O'Brien (DCW) is the leading entrant in the senior girls’ 1500m steeplechase while Brian Fay (Belvedere College) is one of the leading entrants in the senior boys’ 2,000m steeplechase.
Rhasidat Adeleke (Presentation Terenure) starred indoors for her club Tallaght and she will be looking to set the track alight in the junior girls’ 100m and 200m.
The junior boys’ 1500m sees Sean Dalton (Malahide CS) and Sean Donoghue (St Declan's CBS) clash after their great battle at the Irish Life Health All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships in Mallusk in March. Donoghue got the better that day and it will be interesting to see how it pans out on the track.
Jennifer Hanrahan (OLS Terenure) is one of the leading contenders in the jumps in the junior girls’ high jump and long jump while Michael Farrelly (St Fintan’s)will be one of the favourites in the junior boys’ long jump.
There will also be a number of athletes stepping out of the shadows and making their names in the walks and the throws. We await their progress with interest.
Day 2 will be in Morton Stadium on Saturday.
