This Sunday, St. Anne’s Park in Raheny will host the final National Championships of 2025, the 123.ie 20km Race Walk – which coincides with the World Race Walking Tour. The action gets underway at 10:30am in one of Dublin’s most picturesque settings.
Men’s 20km Showdown
The men’s title promises fireworks. Oisín Lane (Mullingar Harriers) starts as favorite after a stellar season that included a strong showing at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. But Lane won’t have it all his own way. Joe Mooney (Adamstown) is hitting form at the right time, while European U23 representatives Jake O’Brien (Moy Valley) and Matthew Glennon (Mullingar Harriers) will be chasing big performances, with O’Brien making his debut over this distance.
This marks the final edition of the National 20km Walk before the new international distance of Half Marathon comes into effect in 2026, a historic moment for Irish race walking.
International Stars on Show
On the global stage, Zachary Whitley (USA) will target a new U.S. record for the Half Marathon, while Pablo Rodriguez Rojas (Spain), Eduardo Camarate (Portugal), and Tomáš Mencel (Slovakia) are names to watch.
Women’s 20km Battle
With Kate Veale sidelined through injury, Aisling Lane (Mullingar Harriers) will aim for her first senior national title, but expect a strong challenge from debutante Eabha de Faoite (Kenmare) and Portuguese duo Joana Simões Pontes and Isa Ferreira.
Marathon Distance
Tokyo Olympic medalist Jonathan Hilbert (Germany) headlines the marathon field, facing stiff competition from teammate Karl Junghannss, Jose Manuel Perez Rubio (Spain), Britain’s Cameron Corbishley, and Brazil’s Lucas Mazzo.
10km Highlights
In the 10km, Ciara Wilson Bowan (Dundrum South Dublin) will chase her first sub-50-minute clocking, while European U18 medalist Seamus Clarke (Moy Valley) looks to stake his claim for major championships in 2026. Luke Fitzmaurice (Sligo) will aim to be best of the rest.
U20 Women’s 10km
Expect a Galway to put in a strong showing with Holly Shaughnesy, Ciara Gilmore, and Beabhin Hosty all chasing their first U20 national crown.
5km Rising Stars
International Schools Champion Pearl Sands (Moy Valley), U20 3000m champ Robin Óg Murphy (Longford), and Aoife Martin (Carraig na bhFear) lead the charge, but keep an eye on Leah O’Gara (Finn Valley) and Cliodhna Ní Chonaill (Castlegar). Star billing goes to Alessia Pop, the 2024 European U18 silver medalist.
3km & Juvenile Races
Large fields will contest the 3km, with Faye Carroll (Cork City) and Juliete Biggs (Bandon) expected to feature prominently. In the U12 1km, Tara and Regan Heffernan (daughters of Olympic legend Robert Heffernan) will toe the line alongside Tiarnach Costin, son of three-time Olympian Jamie Costin, continuing proud family traditions.
Over 300 entries from 30 countries promise a thrilling day of race walking. The first gun goes at 10:30am, with all races wrapped up by 2:00pm.
