Athletics Ireland have announced a final squad selection for the upcoming European Athletics Championships which take place in Rome from June 7th – 12th.
The final selection now includes athletes who have been confirmed as qualified by rank by European Athletics and completes a bumper Irish team which will head for the Italian capital next week.
Among those to be added to the individual entries include Ireland’s fastest man Israel Olatunde (Tallaght AC) who will look to channel memories of that famous record-breaking night at these championships in 2022. Olatunde, who was already selected with the men’s 4x100m relay team, will now also take his place in the heats of the individual 100m on Friday June 7th.
Also joining Olatunde on the plane to Rome will be Olympians Louise Shanahan (Leevale AC – 800m), Christopher O’Donnell (North Sligo AC – 400m), and Phil Healy (Bandon AC – 200m).
Nicola Tuthill (Bandon AC – Hammer Throw), Hiko Tonosa (DSD AC – Half Marathon), Ryan Creech (Leevale – Half Marathon), Mark Smyth (Raheny Shamrock – 200m), Emily Haggard Kearney (North Belfast Harriers – Half Marathon), Shona Heaslip (An Ríocht – Half Marathon), Oisin Lane (Mullingar Harriers AC – 20km Walk), Jodie McCann (Dublin City Harriers – 5000m), and Laura Mooney (Tullamore Harriers- 10,000m) complete a formidable Irish team.
