Bríd Golden from Ferrybank Athletics Club was elected as the new President of Athletics Ireland at Congress 2025 in Tullamore, succeeding John Cronin, whose four-year term came to an end (April 26^th).

Golden, who previously served as Vice President, will step into the role with a wealth of experience in athletics administration.

Speaking of her pride at being elected at President, Golden said: “I feel hugely honoured and proud to have been elected the seventh President of Athletics Ireland following in the footsteps of six exceptional previous Presidents.”

Golden continued: “My 46-year athletics journey to date has been filled with magical moments, great days, wonderful people and treasured memories. I have been overwhelmed by the good wishes from so many who have wished me well over the last few days and am hugely excited for the next two years. I am assuming the role of President at an amazing time for our sport with our athletes inspiring the nation. I’m so delighted to lead our organisation for the next two years and will do so with immense pride and passion.”

A former Irish Senior Heptathlon record holder, Golden has represented Ireland at juvenile, junior, and senior levels. Golden now nurtures the next generation of Irish athletes as a sprint and jumps coach at Ferrybank AC, where she has mentored numerous international athletes over the past 25 years.

Ferrybank AC were quick to congratulate Golden on her election, commenting: “All involved in Ferrybank AC are thrilled that Bríd Golden has been elected President of Athletics Ireland, and we are hugely proud of her. Bríd has been an inspirational club leader for over 25 years. She has been our club secretary for 23 years before moving to club Chairperson for two years. Since concluding her own exceptional athletics career, Bríd has been our lead coach in sprints, jumps and hurdles.  All this work continued alongside her significant national commitments with Athletics Ireland. We know that Bríd will excel in her role as President, and we wish her every success.”

Athletics Ireland CEO Hamish Adams commented: “We extend a warm welcome to our new President Bríd Golden who we all look forward to working with for the next two years. We offer a special thank you to our past President John Cronin for his incredible contribution over the last four years.
