About the Programme

Try Track and Field is a coach-led, schools-based programme that aims to provide an opportunity for primary school children to TRY Track and Field. The programme is based on the Athletics Strand of the Irish Primary Schools PE Curriculum.

Who is the programme aimed at?

Primary School aged children (5 to 13yrs).

How long does it take?

Try Track and Field is a progressive 6-week programme, where each class progresses through the programme and children Learn and practice running, hurdling, throwing (i.e. turbo javelin), shot put, and long jump.  Each session lasts for 30 minutes. Upon completion of the programme children are invited to a graduation and festival of Track and Field.

How is it delivered?

The Programme is delivered by qualified Athletics Ireland Try Track and Field coaches during class time. The programme can be carried out in either an indoor or outdoor setting utilising whatever facilities (i.e. school hall, outdoor pitch, etc.) are available in the school or surrounds.
