Bantry man Alan O'Shea continues winning form Alan O'Shea from Bantry, winner of the Woodie's DIY AAI 10k, added to his list of wins with an impressive victory in the Cork City Marathon today. A glorious sunny day greeted the participants, although a fairly strong breeze ofered some relief. Temperatures got up into the high teens as the race progressed. O'Shea was in control from the start and was soon on his own, running, as he said afterwards, well within himself in this his first marathon. His winning time of 2:27.36 saw him finish four minutes ahead of Wieslaw Sosnowski, with Roy Fahy third. O'Shea plans to run a half marathon in Lisburn later this month in a bid to qualify for the Irish team for the World University Games. Tracy Guilfoyle from Clare was equally impressive in winning the women's race. The relay section was won easily by West Waterford from the 'Spirit of Cork' team comprising Cian McLoughlin, Noel Berkeley and Cathal Lombard who are still trying to figure out how they were beaten!!!
