Jamie Nieto aiming high in Cork - Mountain running teams announced Holder of the high jump event in Cork, Jamie Nieto, from USA was first overseas athlete to arrive in the southern capital last tuesday to signal his intent to claim victory for a second time at next Saturday's Cork City Sports.. Nieto who finished 4th.in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens will duel with the bronze medallist from Athens, Jaroslav Baba (Cze) who has a personal best jump of 2.37m and also Poland's Grzegorz Sposob who has jumped 2.34m. Nieto has also jumped 2.34m The 2005 World champion from the Ukraine , Yuriy Krimarenko will also be in a star line-up for an event which is sure to keep spectators highly entertained. The Dutch national champion Jan Peter Larsen having recently cleared 2.25m is also in the field with Ireland's Europa Cup representative Chris Crowley from Cork heading the home challenge. EMRC teams 2008 The following Irish teams have been selected for the 2008 European championships in mountain running: Senior women: Angela Speight (Omagh harriers); Aisling Coppinger (Clonliffe); Donna Mahon (Rathfarnham); Mags Greenan (Clonliffe). Senior men: Stephen Duncan (Omagh harriers); Barry Minnock (Rathfarnham); Des Woods (Mourne runners); Tom Hogan (Slaneyside); Peter O’Farrell (Rathfarnham). Junior women: Michelle Finn (Duhallow); Gayle Finn (Duhallow); Eimear Tangney (Spa Muckross). Reserve: Carol Huet (DSD). Junior men: Eoin Rowan (North Sligo); Michael Dowling (West Wicklow); Conor Moore (Omagh harriers); Kian Jennings (DSD). Reserve: Emmet Jennings (DSD). Managers: Marty McVeigh (Newcastle); Gerry Brady (Clonliffe). Entries are higher than ever before with 21 teams entered in the senior men (17 in 2007), 17 teams in the senior women (16 in 2007), 11 teams entered in the junior men (9 in 2007), and 10 teams in the junior women (6 in 2007).
