CURTIN TAKES NATIONAL HALF MARATHON RECORD

14 September 2025

Youghal’s Fearghal Curtin has broken the Irish national half marathon record, clocking a sensational time of 1:00:22 to finish 8th at the Copenhagen Half Marathon in Denmark (September 14th, 2025).

Curtin’s performance breaks the previous record of 1:00:51 set by Efrem Gidey in the same city one year ago. Subject to ratification, Curtin will boast the fastest official half marathon ever run by an Irish athlete. Alistair Cragg clocked 1:00:49 back in 2011 but it was not ratified as an Irish record due to the course’s net elevation drop.

This historic run comes after a string of world-class performances from the 26-year-old. In April, Curtin finished 5th at the Berlin Half Marathon in 1:01:12, narrowly missing the national record. He followed that up with a breakthrough marathon debut in Düsseldorf, placing 4th in 2:11:35 – a time that ranks him 10th on the Irish All-Time list.
