Ireland’s Mark English produced a stunning early‑season display at the CMCM Luxembourg Indoor Meeting this evening, breaking his own Irish indoor 800m record with a superb 1:44.65, which also stands as a new meeting record.
English’s trademark closing speed was once again on full show as he powered away over the final lap, lowering his previous national indoor mark of 1:45.15, set at the Millrose Games in 2025. This performance, which ranks English joint 13th on the WORLD all-time indoor 800m list, marks a major statement from the Donegal athlete as he builds towards the 2026 season’s major championships.
The record continues an impressive start to the year for English, following his Irish 600m indoor record just four days ago, where he clocked 1:15.80 at the Track and Field Live Meet at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown.
Moore Claims Second Place in Women’s 800m
In the women’s 800m, rising star Emma Moore delivered another outstanding performance, taking second place in an outright personal best of 2:02.34, also setting a new National U23 Indoor Record (NU23R) at the Luxembourg Meet.
Moore’s time improves on her previous best of 2:02.39 from December and brings her another step closer to the Athletics Ireland World Indoors B Standard of 2:02.20.
