Day 2 in Hengelo A downpour disrupted today’s competition at the European junior championships in Hengelo. As a result the men’s pole vault has had to be re-scheduled for tomorrow and the men’s javelin final has been put back to Sunday. The storm caused a two hour break. Suzanne Huet, who reached the EYOF standard after the cut-off date, and then qualified for the 5,000m European junior championships with an amazing run at the junior championships in Tullamore, put in yet another superb performance to finish sixth in today’s 5,000m final. Her time of 16:48.17 is a new Irish record (subject to ratification) and five seconds faster than she previously ran. Well done Suzanne on a memorable run. Amy Foster was back in action again in the heats of the 200m and she qualified for the semi finals with a time of 24.40. Jessie Barr finished eight in the semi final of the 400m hurdles in 60.88 and can be well pleased with her efforts. Kelly Proper was well down on her best when finishing eleventh in the final of the long jump. Her best effort was 5.79m. 200m 4 534 FOSTER, Amy IRL 24.40 q 400m hurdles 8 533 BARR, Jessie IRL 1:00.88 Long Jump 11 537 PROPER, Kelly IRL 5.79 5.79 (-0.2) 5.51 (0.0) 5.73 (+0.5) 5,000m 1 842 POPKOVA, Natalya RUS 16:08.95 2 673 OPSAL, Ingunn NOR 16:14.59 3 472 PIDGEON, Emily GBR 16:31.30 4 769 BIRCA, Roxana ROM 16:46.55 PB 5 831 KHASANOVA, Alfiya RUS 16:47.32 6 535 HUET, Suzanne IRL 16:48.17 NJR 7 524 KOSTYÁL, Ágnes HUN 16:49.41 PB 8 635 ZUSINAITE, Vaida LTU 16:49.54 PB
