Exciting Combined Events in Athlone
An Exciting GloHealth All Ireland Schools Combined Events Championships is set for Athlone IT on the 7th of November with some top talent on show.
At junior level Aaron Sexton (Bangor Grammar) who was in superb form winning the 100m (11.06) and the 200m in a time of 22.47, the 200m time at the All Ireland Schools T+F championships is set to feature while Daniel Ryan (Thurles CBS) is a strong contender in the Intermediate boys and finished 4th in the long jump at the European Youth Oympics in the summer.
Tim Bowler (St Mary's CBS Enniscorthy) will be looking to impress to impress in the senior boys - his brother Michael has competed as a senior internationally in the combined events.
In the girls ranks names to watch out for include Ruby Millet (Kilkenny College) whose sister Nessa Millet has run junior internationals over 400m hurdles and won Irish schools titles and is now studying in Loughbourough.
Kate O’Connor (SV Dundalk) should be favourite and was a class apart in the junior girls javelin as she set a new mark of 43.77m having earlier finished second in the 800m in 2:20.37 at the All Ireland Schools champs last summer. Other names include sisters Sophie and Holly Meredith (SMI Newcastle West), Ciara McKeon (Colaiste na Toirbhirte, Bandon) and Aisling Cassidy (Bandon Grammer School)
There is an equally competitive field in the Intermediate girls while Cara Burke (Methodist College Belfast) Rebekah Rutherford (Glenlola Collegiate Grammar School) Kathleen Craig (Royal & Prior School, Raphoe) and Laoise Bennis (Hazelwood College, Limerick) will battle for top honours in the senior girls.
