Finn Valley AC has lodged planning permission with Donegal Co. Council to create a new swimming pool for the surrounding community at a cost of €8million. The proposed development in partnership with the local council and will augment the existing facilities which impressively include a 400m track, 800m jogging trail, large indoor hall, weights /leisure area, Modern bar area, outdoor and indoor changing areas, conference room and associated lecture rooms, accommodation block with modern kitchen, a number of football play areas and training areas on a 12 acre site to which an additional 4 acres to be added shortly. Finn Valley currently offers a diverse recreation program 7 days a week driven by the athletic club which includes Athletics, football, gymnastics boxing etc and recreational 5-a-side on 4 synthetic real grass floodlit pitches, which attracts in the region of 3000 visits a week and is supported by a staff of 12? Club chairman Patsy McGonagle welcomed this latest integrated development which underlines a one stop shop approach to the delivery of play, sport and recreation on one site. Finn Valley AC will shortly announce their 2007 annual primary school athletics program based from the centre involving some 5000 children county wide and stretching across the border to neighboring West Tyrone with 80 schools involved in 2006. Finn Valley bought the existing site some 20 years ago which was at that time a disused factory, developing this facility over time to eventually becoming the envy of the local sports community.
