Athletics Ireland is proud to announce the Irish team selected to represent the nation at the 2025 IAU 24-Hour World Championships, taking place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October in Albi, France. The squad will feature a strong lineup of male and female ultrarunners competing at the highest level of endurance racing on the global stage.
The Men’s Team will be captained by James O’Connor of Slaney Olympic AC (Wexford), the current National Champion, who boasts a personal best of 231.150km. He will be joined by Dave Andrews of Atlas Running (Down), the more experienced member of the squad with a PB of 244.417km, and Jason Nichol of St. Finbarr’s AC (Cork), who brings a PB of 231.187km to the competition.
In the Women’s Race, Ireland will be represented by a seasoned duo: Lorraine McMahon of Wexford Marathon Club (Wexford), with a PB of 221.250km, and Anne Jennings of Dublin Bay Runners (Dublin), who holds a PB of 220.545km. Both athletes bring a wealth of competitive experience and resilience to the team having represented in previous World and European Championships.
While this marks the first major international competition for James O’Connor and Jason Nichol, both are no strangers to the ultrarunning community and are expected to make a strong impression on the world stage.
The team will be supported by a dedicated backroom staff:
- John O’Regan (Le Chéile AC) – Team Lead
- Louis Byrne (Glendalough AC) – Physical Therapist & Support
Athletics Ireland wishes the entire squad the very best as they prepare to take on the world’s elite in one of the sport’s most demanding events.
