Juveniles deliver more excitement on day 2

More brilliant performances in Athlone 

There was another slew of fine performances on day two of the Irish Life Health National Juvenile Indoor Championships with sprinters lighting up the blue boards of Athlone today (March 31).

Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght) won the U19 girls’ 200m in a championship best performance of 24.09 to a highlight another excellent weekend for the up-and-coming sprinter.

Some of the highlight 200m performances were: Conor Morey winning U19 boys’ gold in 21.87; Robert McDonnell (Galway City Harriers) winning the U18 category in 22.07; Jordan Kissane (Tralee Harriers) speeding to U17 success in 22.58; Glory Wenegieme (Belgooly) powered to U16 gold 22.98; and Katie Monteith (City of Lisburn) won the U17 girls’ 200m in 24.75.

There were some good performances in the middle distance with Louis O`Loughlin (Donore Harriers) winning the U19 boys 800m in 1:52.85. Aaron Shorten (St. L. O'Toole A.C.) won the U17 boys’ 800m in 1:55.46 with Victoria Lightbody (City of Lisburn A.C.) winning the U16 girls’ 800m in a CBP of 2:13.01. Ava O`Connor (Tullamore Harriers A.C.) won the U17 girls’ 800m in a swift 2:12.54 to add to the 1500m she won the day previous.

Erin Fisher (City of Lisburn A.C.) won the U19 girls’ pole vault with a 3.30m clearance while Una Brice (Leevale) won the U16 girls’ pole vault with a CBP of 3.00m.

Ryan Onoh was another Leevale athlete with a CBP winning the boys’ U12 long jump with 4.75m. Ella Farrelly (Craughwell A.C.) won the U13 girls’ long jump with        4.56m.

In the shot put, Callum Keating (North Cork) won the boys’ U16 title with 15.29m and Ailbhe Gordon (Greystones & District A.C.) won the U14 girls with 11.60m.

John Cashman (Leevale) starred in the U14 boys 60m hurdles winning in a CBP of 8.82. Anna McCauley (City of Lisburn A.C.) won the U19 girls’ 60m hurdles in 8.83.
