Ireland’s next generation of athletics signed off this year’s 123.ie National Juvenile Track and Field Championships in some style at a blisteringly hot Tullamore on this weekend.
123.ie National Juvenile Championships Day 3
Day 3 of the 123.ie National Juvenile Track and Field Championships delivered a thrilling spectacle across the hurdles, 200m sprints, and 1500m finals on the track. Action in the field concentrated on the shot put, javelin, long jump, triple jump, and high jump.

Track Events
400m Hurdles (U18 Girls):
- Lauren Kilduff (Craughwell A.C.) delivered a standout run, clocking 1:00.33 in the final.
1500m Finals:
- U19 Boys: Caolan McFadden (Cranford A.C.) came out on tope once more, winning in 3:58.34, with Jamie Wallace (Mullingar Harriers A.C.) close behind in 3:59.39.
- U18 Boys: Conrad Latham (Raheny Shamrock A.C.) broke the 4-minute barrier with a 3:59.74 finish, leading a deep field.
- U18 Girls: Leia Ryan (Metro/St. Brigids A.C.) impressed with a 4:33.27 win, showing strong tactical control.
- U16 Girls: Freya Renton of Westport A.C. delivered a stunning run to take gold in the U16 Girls 1500m, setting a new Championship Record of 4:29.81. It was a 1-2 finish for Westport A.C., with Holly Renton claiming silver, followed by Ally Duffy of Tullamore Harriers A.C. in third.
200m Sprint Finals:
- U19 Boys: Ronan Ryan (Nenagh Olympic A.C.) edged out Lemar Lucciano (West Coast A.C.) in a thrilling final, 21.82s to 22.08s.
- U19 Girls: Katie Doherty of Ratoath A.C. sprinted to gold, clocking a blistering 24.45 to set a new Championship Record! She breaks the previous record of 24.48, set by Lauren Cadden (Sligo A.C.) in 2018
- U18 Boys: Dubem Amah (Tallaght A.C.) lit up the track on Day 3, storming to gold in the U18 Boys 200m with a time of 21.44 in the final! He had already impressed in the heats with 21.57, before going on to smash the previous record of 22.06, set last year by Lemar Lucciano (West Coast A.C.)
- U18 Girls: Cassie O Byrne (St. L. O’Toole A.C.) took gold in 25.06s, narrowly ahead of Sofia Granjo.
Field Events
- Long Jump (U19 Boys): Michael Kent (DMP A.C.) soared to 7.29m, a standout leap that would have broken the CR of 7.25 only for the wind reading of +3.6 m/s.
- Shot Put (U19 Boys): Theo Hanlon (Suncroft A.C.) set a new Championship Record in the U19 Boys Shot Put with a superb throw of 17.51m. He surpasses the previous record of 17.14m, set by James Kelly (Finn Valley A.C.) in 2018.
- Shot Put (U19 Girls): Caoimhe Gallen (Lifford Strabane A.C.) threw 11.87m to secure gold, continuing her strong form in the throws.
- Long Jump (U19 Girls): Riona Doherty (Finn Valley A.C.) led the field with a 5.74m jump, ahead of a competitive group.
- Javelin (U17 Boys): Kevin O’Shea of Farranfore Maine Valley A.C. unleashed a massive throw of 60.61m to take gold in the U17 Boys Javelin. His performance smashed the previous CR of 58.35m, set by Conor Cusack (Lake District A.C.) in 2018.
- Javelin (U17 Girls): Emer Purtill of Dooneen A.C. set a new standard in the U17 Girls Javelin, throwing a superb 45.89m to claim gold Her throw breaks a record that had stood since 2015, previously held by Orlaith O’Brien (Ferrybank A.C.).
