Paul Hession finished 7th in his semi-final in a time of 21.09. With only the top 4 going through to the final, to be held later this evening, this means that Paul will not progress. (18:40pm) Joanne Cuddihy was 8th in tonight's 400m final in a time of 51:46. Joanne was most definitely impeded by drawing lane one for the final but it was a valuable experience for the young athlete who takes a new PB away from this championships.(18:17pm) Anna Boyle runs a solid 23.94 but fails to progress to the semi-final (17:54pm) Ciara Sheehy suffers a suspected hamstring injury and is forced to pull up during her 200m heat. (17:44pm) Alistair Cragg cruised comfortably to Sunday's 5000m final in a time of 13:50.12 (17:03pm)
With the morning session concluded we look forward to this evening's events where Alistair Cragg should progress from his 5000m semi-final at 4:40pm. Then all attention will turn to the sprint events where we will first see Anna Boyle and Ciara Sheehy face the task of qualifying for the semi-finals tomorrow. Following these, Joanne Cuddihy will line up in the final of the 400m. Going just .02 off the Irish Record in her semi Joanne will strive to do better again tonight but this task has been hampered by an unfortunate lane draw which will see Joanne start in lane 1. Rounding off the evening will be Paul Hession who will line up in the men's semi-final of the 200m. (15:27pm)
Thomas Chamney finished 5th in his 800m heat in a time of 1:50.12. This now means that we have no athlete progressing to the semi-finals of the 800m. (14:42pm) Dave Campbell finishes 6th in his heat in a time of 1:48.7. Dave led the pack through the first 400m in a time of 52.95 but lost out in the sprint finish. Unfortunately with only the first 3 and the 4 fastest losers going through Dave will not progress any further. (11:24am) Derval O'Rourke has safely progressed to the next round of the 100m hurdles finishing second in a time of 13.03 (10:08) Fionnuala Britton ran a new PB of 9:49.2 to come 11th in her semi-final. Unfortunately she will not qualify for the final but an excellent performance none the less. Disappointment for Roisin McGettigan as her time means she finished 13th overall and will not progress to the final 12. (10:04am) Roisin McGettigan has finished 5th in her semi-final in a time of 9:47.37. However with only 4 to go through automatically it will be anxious wait for Roisin to see if her time is good enough to get her one of the 4 fastest losers spots. (9:23am) Shortly, Irish record holder Roisin McGettigan will start in the first semi-final of the women's 3000m steeplechase. (8.56am)
