MASTERS ATHLETES SET TO DESCEND ON TULLAMORE

22 July 2025

The 123.ie National Masters Track and Field Championships take place in Tullamore this weekend (July 26th), with over 500 athletes set to take to competition across the action-packed eight-hour schedule. Following a stellar indoor season and a strong showing at the World Masters Championships in Florida, Ireland’s top masters athletes are set to light up the outdoors on Saturday.

This weekend’s competition comes hot on the heels of a wonderful 4x800m World Record (subject to ratification) set by brilliant W50 Irish team of Geraldine Vahey (Ennis Track), Catriona Devine (Finn Valley), Anne Marie Connellan (Ennis Track), and Mary Leech (Drogheda & District) in Lucan last week.

Fresh from international success, Michael Kiely (Mallow AC) and Joe Gough (West Waterford AC) will be among the most anticipated names.

Also expected to feature prominently are:

  • Edel Maguire (Clonliffe Harriers), who set a W65 world record in the 400m this spring.
  • Annette Quaid (Leevale AC) and Dean Ryan (Newbridge AC), both sharp over 800m indoors.
  • Brian Boyce (An Ríocht AC) and Snezana Bechtina (Clonliffe Harriers), who dominated the sprints earlier this year.

Saturday Highlights (Schedule Preview)

  • 10:00am: Action kicks off with the 100m sprints and hammer throw.
  • 11:00am: Walks (3k Women / 5k Men) and field events including long jump and pole vault.
  • 12:00pm–2:00pm: Middle-distance events (800m), 200m sprints, and hurdles.
  • 2:30pm–4:30pm: Distance races (3000m Women, 5000m Men), discus, and javelin.
  • 4:00pm onwards: 400m, relays (4x100m, 4x400m), and the 1500m finals to close the day.
