The national athletics calendar returns to the TUS International Arena in Athlone this Sunday (March 15) for the 123.ie National Masters Indoor Championships.
A host of familiar names – including several recent world record breakers – are set to feature across a packed programme, with the action getting underway from 10am.
Among those to watch will be Fiona Gettings O45 (Longford AC), who is expected to challenge strongly over 800m. Rachel Murphy O40 (Plant Based AC), last year’s 3000m champion, also lines up over 800m, while Snezana Bechtina O40 (Clonliffe Harriers) looks set for a busy schedule with entries in the 60m, 200m and 400m after her impressive 60m gold medal performance last year.
Adina Gheorghiu O50 (DSD AC) will be one to watch in the sprints as the defending champion takes on both the 60m and 200m.
Michael Counsel O65 (Raheny Shamrock AC) is expected to feature prominently over 1500m, while Annette Kealy O55 (Raheny Shamrock AC) looks a leading contender in the 3000m.
John MacDermott (Sligo AC) is also set for a busy day with entries in both the 200m and 400m.
Brian Boyce M45 (Milford AC) impressed greatly over 400m last year and is entered to double up over 200m and 400m again this weekend.
Lea Fulcher M50, who claimed the 3000m title last year in 9:15.19, drops down in distance this time and will compete over 800m.
Alison Beck W45 (Dundrum South Dublin AC) looks set for another busy championship with entries in the pole vault, 60m, and high jump. Meanwhile, Alan Delaney M45 (Killarney Valley AC) returns to defend his high jump title after clearing 1.75m to win gold last year.
