Lusk Athletic Club was delighted to welcome the McCabes Pharmacy Fit for Life Roadshow to its grounds on Tuesday, March 31st, in partnership with Athletics Ireland. The event brought energy and enthusiasm to the North Dublin venue, offering members a valuable opportunity to engage in a fun and supportive training session.
Originally founded in 1975 and re-established in 2009 in response to growing local demand, Lusk AC has gone from strength to strength. Built on a philosophy of staying active while having fun, the club began with just 30 members – mainly a handful of families and friends – and has since grown into a thriving community. Its success was recognised nationally in 2022 when it was named Athletics Ireland’s Development Club of the Year, highlighting its commitment to inclusivity across all ages and abilities.
The Fit for Life Roadshow aligns perfectly with the club’s inclusive ethos. Designed to encourage walking and running in a structured, social, and enjoyable way, the programme continues to attract participants of all fitness levels.
Nearly 80 participants took part in the roadshow session, making the most of the longer spring evenings. The McCabes Pharmacy team was on hand to provide health checks, wellness advice, and practical guidance, adding an extra layer of value to the experience. The session itself was led by expert coaches and catered to both walkers and joggers, ensuring an engaging and accessible workout for everyone involved.
The Fit for Life Programme will continue with monthly roadshows across Ireland, offering expert-led training and tailored health support. About Lusk AC Fit for Life
Lusk AC runs its Fit for Life programme multiple times each year, following a proven 10-week “Couch to 5K” plan developed through experience over recent years. Participants are typically grouped based on ability, with 10–15 members per group and a dedicated coach or mentor assigned to provide guidance and encouragement.
Training sessions take place twice weekly (Tuesday and Thursday evenings) and focus on a mix of cardio, strength, and flexibility work. Participants are also encouraged to complete an additional unsupervised session at the weekend as their confidence grows.
At the start of the programme, members commit to an initial four-week period to build consistency. A 5K target event – such as a Parkrun or organised race – is then set, encouraging all club members to support and participate alongside first-time runners.
Upon completing the 10-week programme, participants move into a 12-month Graduate Programme, which introduces progressively more challenging events and supports long-term development. Graduates eventually transition into the club’s main adult section, continuing their training within a supportive group environment.
