European Cross Country Champion Mo Farah equalled Rob Denmark's 10 year old British 5k road best of 13:30 in the 36th annual Finn Valley AC Boxing Day 5k in Stranorlar, Co. Donegal, Ireland. The 23 year old recorded an official time of 13:29.68 which subject to the normal road race ratification procedure will be rounded up to 13:30. Ironically Rob Denmark's time was also set on Irish soil in Dublin in May 1996. Farah, who was in the north west of Ireland for Christmas with his manager Ricky Simms, made his intentions clear from the start with an opening kilometer split of 2:37, eventually coming home the race winner by over 90 seconds from University of Southern Illinois student Joe Byrne. A vocal Irish crowd supported the Teddington based runner throughout the race with the ever popular Farah experiencing celebrity status in one of the 'hotbeds' of Irish distance running. Farah now ends the 2006 season as the fastest British athlete at 3000m, 5000m, 5k road and 10k road. The Donegal charity race, organised by Irish Olympic Games team manager Patsy McGonagle, attracted over 450 runners including Irish Rowing Champion Sinead Jennings, former Irish senior Boxing Champion Danny Ryan and 1979 World Cross Country 11th placer Danny Mc Daid
