Athletes on start-line of National 10k road race

National championship racing returns to the roads this weekend as more than 4,000 runners take to the start line for the Revive Active Great Ireland Run 10K. The race gets underway at 9am on Sunday, April 12th, with a host of familiar names set to battle for national honours.

Women’s Race Preview

The women’s field is particularly deep, led by defending champion Niamh Allen (Leevale AC). Allen delivered one of the standout performances of last year’s race. Her winning time of 31:44 not only secured the title but also marked the fastest 10K ever run by an Irishwoman on Irish soil. She also spearheaded Leevale AC to victory in the team competition.

Emily Haggard Kearney (North Belfast Harriers) has been in flying form this season, with her ultra-impressive 9:07 over 3,000m in Armagh back in February a standout performance.

Hannah Gilliland (Annadale Striders), fifth in last year’s race, returns to a course she knows well, having claimed the national 5K road title in Phoenix Park last May, while Ciara Wilson (DMP AC) is another athlete who has podium experience around the roads of the Phoenix Park.

Men’s Race Preview

The men’s contest looks wide open, with defending champion Jack O’Leary absent from this year’s field, guaranteeing a new national champion.

Kieran Kelly (Raheny Shamrock AC), a multiple-time road champion, brings experience and proven pedigree, while Kane Collins (Donore Harriers) has built a reputation for consistency and should be firmly in the mix once again.

William Fitzgerald (Craughwell AC), sixth in 2025, will be targeting a move up the standings, and Ian Guiden (Clonliffe Harriers) could play a pivotal role in both the individual race and his club’s bid for team honours.

Best of luck to all competing.
