Ciara Neville (Emerald AC, 60m), Emma Moore (Galway City Harriers, 800m) and James Gormley (Carmen Runners, 1500m) have been officially selected by Athletics Ireland for the World Indoor Championships.
The Irish team for the championships which take place in Toruń, Kujawy Pomorze, Poland from March 20th-22nd will now feature eleven athletes after World Athletics updated the ‘Road to Kujawy Pomorze’ rankings system today (March 11th). Neville, Moore and Gormley held Athletics Ireland ‘B’ Standards in their events and had been provisionally selected.
Neville has been in the form of her life this season and joins teammate Lauren Roy (Fast Twitch AC) in the Women’s 60m. The Limerick sprinter won gold at the recent 123.ie National Senior Indoor Championships and has lowered her personal best that had stood since 2017 on three occasions this season. Her 7.26 second clocking in Athlone last month ranks her equal fourth on the Irish all-time list for the event.
Emma Moore has also had a breakthrough 2026 so far, lowering her 800m personal best to 2:01.21 at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in January. The Galway woman, who is a student in DCU, will make her Irish senior international debut in Poland alongside compatriot Maeve O’Neill (Doheny AC). Moore sits fourth on the Irish indoor all-time list for the event, with O’Neill having broken the national record last month in Boston, running a time of 2:00.33.
James Gormley returns to the championships having raced in the 3000m in Nanjing, China last year. The 27-year-old ran an indoor personal best of 3:37.60 in Boston last month which qualifies him for the event and moved to him eighth on the Irish indoor all-time list.
The three athletes join the likes of Kate O’Connor (Dundalk St. Gerard’s AC, pentathlon), Mark English (Finn Valley AC, 800m), Andrew Coscoran (Star of the Sea AC, 3000m) and Sarah Lavin (Emerald AC, 60m Hurdles), who were officially selected by Athletics Ireland earlier this week.
