Jake O’Regan (St John’s AC) and Ann Marie McGlynn (Strabane AC) were crowned the 2025 national half marathon champions at the sold-out Bord na Mona Tullamore Half Marathon this morning (August 30th).
O’Regan, who came into the race off an impressive win at the Cork City Half Marathon back in June, mastered the wet and windy conditions to cross in a winning time of 1:07:25.
Speaking after the race, a delighted O’Regan spoke of his pride at taking his second senior title on the roads, he said: “I’m delighted to get a national title over the half marathon distance. The conditions were tricky, but I felt I had the wind on my back when I really needed it on the downhill. It was a great event and a huge thanks to all in Tullamore Harriers for braving the wind and rain with us out there”.
Speaking about his plans for the upcoming weeks, the St John’s athlete said: “Dublin (marathon) is only eight weeks away and they tend to go pretty quick so it’s just about getting the mileage in over the next few weeks and look forward to what sure to be a great race in Dublin again this year”.
Patrick McColl (Road Runners AC) ran a huge race to take the national silver in 1:09:00, while Matthew Kane (Rathfarnham WSA AC) secured a brilliant bronze with 1:10:48.
Clane AC packed superbly to take the team title with Terry Shanley (1:11:55) leading home the Conroys to finish with over three minutes to spare on hosts Tullamore.
Ann Marie McGlynn was a very popular winner of the senior women’s title, adding to her growing list of national titles to take her first half marathon title in impressive fashion. The Strabane AC athlete crossed in a time of 1:15:10 which saw her finish ahead of Caithlyn Harvey (Roadrunners AC) 1:19:31 and Noureen Brouder (Sportsworld AC) 1:21:15.
Speaking after the race, McGlynn said: “It was like a winter’s day out there, but it’s a national half and its running through my village, so I couldn’t not do it. Plan now will be to get back and recover from this which was slightly faster than marathon effort, so I shouldn’t be too long getting back. I’ll focus in on another block of training and then it’s all eyes on the Dublin Marathon”.
Liffey Valley AC came out on top of the senior team standing with Mollie O’Donell leading them home in 01:24:35. Mullingar Harriers and St Finbarrs were second and third respectively.
